Sock Snowman

Items needed:
white socks
old sweaters
rice
buttons
assorted decorations
tacky glue
acrylic paint
hot glue gun
felt pen
pom poms

Get the sock ready-

Cut the foot part off the sock and throw it away. The straight part is what you need for the body. Turn the tube part inside out and secure the bottom with a rubber band. Make sure it's tight so the rice doesn't fall out. Turn the sock inside out again so the rubber band is hidden on the inside.

Build and decorate the body-

Carefully fill the sock with rice. Put in a little at a time and gently push it down after each addition. The more rice you add, the chubbier your snowman becomes. When he's the perfect shape, secure the top of the sock with another rubber band. Cut the top and bottom off an the ankle sock and pull it down over the body to cover your snowman with a sweater. Use the twine to separate the top into the head and create a bottom section.
Make a hat out of scraps. Decorate any way you want. I really had fun and made many of these.


More on filling socks

Items needed:

• Polyester stuffing
• Red Yarn
• Scissors
• Felt or foam (for eyes/ buttons)
• Orange pipe cleaner/ felt/ or orange paper (Nose)
• Craft glue

Instructions: 

1. Put a small amount of stuffing in the sock and tie off to shape the head.
2. Add a larger amount of stuffing for the next Snowman section and also tie off. Bottom section will, of course, require the most stuffing.
3. After bottom is stuffed, you can just poke the end of the sock into the stuffing, as it will hold in place. You can cut a round, white cardboard base and glue snowman to base if you want a more secure bottom.
4. Cut about 6 pieces of yarn, 12 inch lengths, and tie around Snowman neck for his scarf.
5. Cut pieces of felt or foam for eyes and buttons and glue in place.
6. Use whatever you have to make a nose. We took a small section of pipe cleaner and bent in half and glued this in place. A scrap of felt or even a piece of paper, colored orange will work also.
